NASA Nutella Jar Artemis II Sony A1 II Conspiracy Reddit Claims NASA's Viral "Nutella Jar" Was a Sony A1 II — Digitally Relabeled To Protect Nikon Contract

SAN JOSE, CA — A Reddit thread on r/SonyAlphaStyle posted by user u/SonyShooter_Meridian is gaining massive momentum after suggesting that the floating "Nutella jar" seen during the Artemis II livestream was, in fact, a Sony A1 II — digitally altered by NASA to protect its standing Space Act Agreement with Nikon worth millions.

"I've been frame-advancing through the NASA livestream VOD for three days," the user wrote. "Nobody's asking the real question: Why does a jar of hazelnut spread have a hot shoe?" The post, which has accumulated over 800 upvotes, claims the grip indentation on the object's right side matches a Sony Multi Interface Shoe cover, and that the label appeared at "exactly the angle that would obscure the Sony logo."

Sony Alpha Rumors subsequently weighed in, citing three anonymous sources — two described as previously reliable — and noting that NASA's official denial, "This was not a product placement," is technically consistent with both the Nutella explanation and the Sony explanation. The site further noted that Nikon's Space Act Agreement with NASA, document 39320_SAA8-2339320_Nikon_Inc._Final_Signed.pdf, provides cameras at no cost, though its precise exclusivity terms remain undisclosed.

Louis Ferreira of SonyAddict.com, whose April 1st article claiming NASA had selected Sony as its official Artemis imaging partner was widely dismissed as a joke, now insists he was not joking. "They said, and I quote, 'Artemis II Orion capsule Integrity is carrying a custom-modified Sony Alpha 1 II system aboard,'" Ferreira wrote. "I guess this is what they meant."

NASA has not responded to follow-up questions. Sony Electronics has not responded to requests for comment. Ferrero North America's statement that Nutella is "out of this world" did not, sources note, confirm the object was their product.
