German Car Maker Releases Newest Model With Photographers In Mind

Munich, Germany — One of the world’s most beloved car makers has engineered and debuted a vehicle meticulously crafted for the lifestyle of busy, working photographers. We’ve all heard of the X5; now, welcome the newest BMW P5ix—the “P” standing for “Photographer.”

The newest model features BMW’s legendary engineering, providing the same xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive, TwinPower Turbo speed, and opulent luxury the brand is known for. Along with this, the new BMW is equipped with proximity sensors that allow the tailgate to open automatically as the photographer approaches with their hands full, allowing for seamless, hands-free loading. In the rear, you'll find twelve dedicated power outlets to charge camera batteries, drones, or laptops during the commute between gigs.

For The On-The-Go Photographer

The cargo area, which comes natively with BMW’s own roadside toolkit, also sports a hidden, lockable sub-floor panel for camera bags, lighting kits, or other expensive equipment that needs to stay out of sight during a shoot. Furthermore, replacing the traditional ski pass-through found in older models, BMW has provided dedicated vertical secure-slots for light stands and tripods, ensuring they remain stationary and accessible during transport. Of course, the trunk remains spacious enough for oversized roller bags, C-stands, and seamless backdrops.

Inside the cabin, the rear seats are upholstered in Extended Merino leather with sleek, diamond-stitched designs. Between the seats is a specialized, deep-chilled compartment designed to hold bridal bouquets (should you need to transport the bride and her party between locations) or to secure celebratory drinks for the groom and his groomsmen during the dash from the ceremony to the reception.

The Differentiating Features

But what truly separates this BMW from the rest of the fleet is the cockpit. BMW has included its legendary Live Cockpit Professional dashboard, featuring heated and ventilated Multifunction seats with a massage function for those grueling 12-hour wedding days. A massive BMW Curved Display faces the driver, providing stellar navigation, a heated M Sport carbon fiber steering wheel, and the coup de grâce: integrated lens holders situated between the driver and passenger.

Setting the P5ix apart from every other luxury SUV are these massive, modular lens holders. Unlike standard cup holders, these are lined with high-density foam and can be adjusted to fit everything from a 35mm f/1.4 prime to a 70-200mm f/2.8 telephoto lens. Additional holders are available on the rear of the center console, providing four total quick-access "holsters" for glass.

The passenger side is optimized for "heavy hitters" like a 600mm f/4 or an 800mm f/5.6 lens and boasts a specialized five-point gear harness (which could easily be mistaken for a racing seatbelt) to secure these five-figure optics when navigating pothole-dotted city streets or hitting high speeds on the Autobahn. The passenger footwell has been redesigned to accommodate multiple camera bodies, speedlights, and modifiers—even a non-collapsible beauty dish. While the passenger side can still seat a human, BMW contends that because most professional photographers are "loners," the space is best intended for gear.

The Delivery Date and Cost

The new model is set to hit the market in November 2026, just in time for the start of the engagement season. Starting at just above the price of a Hasselblad H6D-100c and 400c MS combined, the car is finally ready for the true, working professional.
