“No Use” Art Installation Wows Natural Light Photographers
Cassandra Ownings “No Use” art installation
KANSAS CITY, KS - The natural light photography community was a-buzzed with the newly minted work of art that was on display at a local art installation this weekend.
The art called “No Use” is of a Yungnuo speedlight taped to the wall. The artist, Cassandra Ownings, expresses her pleasure at her artwork. “My friend who’s a off camera flash aficionado actually left the speedlight at my house when he tried to teach me the technique,” Cassandra said. “Unfortunately, he couldn’t come back for it, and I had no use for it myself, so I figure I’d make art from it.”
Cassandra who owns the “Light Up Yours Photography” has never learned to use flash despite having seen her friend use it multiple times. “There’s definitely a place and time for it, but I don’t have the time nor the place,” Cassandra offered.
Many of the community’s natural light photographers who came to see the art show were excited to see what other ways they can use a speedlight. Some though had no clue what it was that was taped to the wall.
“Not really sure what it’s supposed to be. Is it something photographers even use?” Eric, a onlooker said. “I know it’s supposed to give light, I think, right?” asked another bewildered guest. “It’s not even a banana,” quipped another guest, “at least you can eat those.”
Cassandra hopes that her art installation would get her the kind of return another art of the same kind garnered. “If a banana taped to a wall can be sold for $120K, how much would another useless item on a wall sell for?” she mused.
UPDATE: The Tog Times has just received notice that a local OCF photographer had removed the art installation and began to use it in the middle of the show—to the shock and awe of those standing by.
